Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (AKA New York Fashion Week) has just ended, bringing with it a slew of new styles, designs, and trends to take the nip right out of the coming winter season. And let’s be honest, if next year’s winter is anything like this one, you’re gonna need it.
Here are some standouts among the many trends careening down the runways.
Yes, capes. Remember the poncho? You looked askance then too and yet ponchos took over the world. Capes are the latest take on the cozy style front – from Michael Kors to Carolina Herrera. Bundle up with a short and sweet version (like the one from Tracey Reese on the right) or stay snug under a longer option from Public School.
The perfect non-fur-fur, shearling coats have never looked so fabulous. Reed Krakoff (left) makes a stunning casual option with a zipper and push-up sleeves while the Olsen Twins work The Row (right) with looks that are polished, tailored, and oh-so-chic.
3. Textured Sweaters
For Fall/Winter staples like sweaters, fashion designers are constantly inventing new fibers, yarns and ways to knit them up. Alexander Wang uses a collar contrast to ground his aggressive lime green extravaganza, while Ohne Titel utilizes leather to swing the style on a trajectory into the land of biker.
I’m not sure there will ever come a time when plaid just isn’t in and this season is no exception. Delpozo gives us a hint of the prarie with a strapless button-front dress while Vera Wang keeps it classic, pairing it with an argyle sweater and leather boots.
Stay tuned for more trend reports!
